About Us

The ESRFG is made up of licenced radio amateurs, short wave listeners and their families from across East Sussex who meet up approximatly once a month to participate in a radio foxhunt (more details of how the foxhunt works can be found on the 'About Foxhunting' section on the left hand side of the page)

Hunts are generally carried out using the Ordnance Survey Landranger 199 map, which works to a scale of 1:50000 covering the Eastbourne and Hastings area, and carried out on a Sunday afternoon, usually starting at 15:00 (summertime) or 13:30 (wintertime), although this will be confirmed on the 'Events & Results' area as soon as possible.

The frequency used for the foxhunts is 144.775 MHz.

Registration for the hunt takes place half an hour beforehand on the GB3ES repeater (145.675 MHz) or the hunt frequency in case of the repeater being offline.

The hunt schedule is generally as follows unless stated. The following is based on a summertime start:

14:30 > 14:55
Registration for hunt takes place on GB3ES

15:00 > 17:00
Hunt takes place on hunt frequency. Hunt runs for two hours or until all foxes are found, whichever is sooner.

17:00
Awarding of prizes, nibbles and retirement to local drinking establishment (otherwise known as a 'pub')

The event is a great family activity for a sunday afternoon (indeed, we do have entire families making up a team of hounds in order to find the foxes). Please check the 'Events & Results' section for the latest results and the date of the next hunt.

If you are a short wave listener and would like to join in, please email us at info@radiofoxhunt.co.uk for more information on how you can register for the next hunt.
